John Meier received degrees in Agronomy and Agricultural Economics from the University of Georgia in 1978. Having worked as an undergraduate assistant for various professors in the Agricultural Economics Department, after graduating John was employed by the University of Georgia as an Economic Research Assistant. While working with families and businesses across the State, John observed the devastating effect that failing to make appropriate plans can have on families. To be able to help others, John enrolled in Mercer University’s Walter F. George School of Law and received his Juris Doctor Degree in 1985. John began his legal career in his home town of Albany, Georgia where he began to focus his practice in comprehensive estate planning, Wills and Trusts, and probate and trust administration. After ten year of practice, John became a Vice President with Security Bank and Trust Company in Albany, Georgia and a Trust Officer for Synovus Trust Company. While with Synovus, John continued to concentrate his efforts to assist individuals and their families with their estate planning and their probate and trust administration needs.
During this time, John became a Certified Trust and Financial Advisor, which is a nationally recognized certification, distinguishing him among his peers. John returned to private practice in 2006 and moved with his family to Cherokee County, Georgia where he is a senior partner in the law firm of Thompson, Meier & King, PC heading the firm’s Estate Planning Division and continuing in his efforts to assist individuals and families with their long term care, estate planning, probate and trust administration needs.
